Our client is a leading innovator in advanced scientific instrumentation, developing cutting-edge technologies used across a range of high-impact sectors including research, healthcare, and industrial applications. As part of their continued growth and investment in R&D, they are seeking an experienced and motivated Embedded Systems Engineer to join their Sheffield-based team.

Working as part of a collaborative and multidisciplinary R&D function, you will play a key role in delivering innovative embedded solutions, taking projects from early-stage concept through to production. This is a hands-on position where you will contribute across firmware development, hardware integration, and real-time system design, helping to bring next-generation products to market.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing embedded firmware solutions in line with product requirements
  • Designing and integrating electronic hardware and embedded systems from concept through to delivery
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to define technical specifications and requirements
  • Conducting testing, validation, and evaluation to ensure robust system performance
  • Supporting ongoing product lifecycle activities, including maintenance and improvements to existing firmware
  • Collaborating with engineers to solve complex technical challenges and ensure seamless system integration
  • Maintaining accurate project documentation and working in line with quality and regulatory standards
  • Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems, Physics, or a related discipline
  • >5 years’ experience in an R&D or product development environment
  • Strong experience in embedded programming (C or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with electronic design, prototyping, and bench testing
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Experience with STM32/ARM microcontroller systems
  • Knowledge of simulation techniques for electronics design
  • Exposure to scientific instrumentation or related technologies
