About this job

As Head of Development, you will be responsible for managing engineering development across mechanical, electronics and software disciplines while driving innovation and new product development within a precision manufacturing environment. You will play a key role in shaping the company’s product roadmap, overseeing multiple concurrent development programmes and ensuring the delivery of high-performance instrumentation to international standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team (~10 direct reports)
  • Provide technical leadership and design authority across product development
  • Oversee multiple concurrent R&D projects
  • Drive new product introduction (NPI) and product lifecycle management
  • Manage recruitment, training and performance of engineering staff
  • Lead design reviews, feasibility studies and project scoping
  • Ensure compliance with CE, UKCA and ISO9001 standards
  • Contribute to department budgeting and resource planning

Requirements:

  • Senior engineering leadership experience (e.g. Head of Engineering, Engineering Director, Technical Director, NPI Director etc)
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Background in scientific instrumentation, analytical equipment or complex engineered products
  • Strong experience in product development within a manufacturing environment
  • Electronics engineering background desirable
