A leading scientific instrumentation manufacturer are offering an exceptional opportunity for a Physicist to become part of their dynamic R&D team, designing and developing state-of-the-art mass spectrometers.

Our client is an industry-leading scientific instrument manufacturer, delivering products with wide-reaching applications, including proteomics, batteries, and medical diagnostics. As a member of the R&D team, you will work cross-departmentally to investigate, develop, and implement MALDI-TOF-MS based technology, producing design specifications and technical reports. You will be hands-on, working on commercial mass spectrometers, including time-of flight, electrostatic optics and electrodynamic components. With excellent writing and communication skills, you will carry out scientific data analysis and bring an innovative approach to working in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced environment.

This role is offered on a full time, permanent basis and you will work out of our client’s facility in Manchester, with some flexible working options.

Candidates are encouraged to apply who:

  • Hold a MSc or PhD or equivalent in Physics or Chemistry (or related)
  • Have a background in design and development of complex analytical equipment (MALDI, TOF, ion optics, electron microscopes, high vacuum systems)
  • Knowledge of design tools (SIMION, CPO, COMSOL etc.)
  • Basic coding (Python, MATLAB etc.) is desirable.
  • Experience in an ISO environment would be beneficial
