Why candidates should use recruitment agencies?

Recruiters don’t necessarily have a great reputation – whether this is justified or not – it’s a fact. The staffing and recruiting industry is a big and competitive market so you will undoubtedly come across both good and bad recruitment consultants at some point in your job hunt. Now, is this a reason not to use recruitment agencies? Would you stop going out to restaurants if you had a bad experience last Saturday night? Probably not, you will just be a bit more careful about where you’re going next; and this should be the same with recruiters. At VRS, we always do our best to deliver an excellent service to both candidates and clients and we thought it would be a good idea to explain why you should use recruiters (especially VRS!):

  • We know the industry very well and have created strong relationships with clients and candidates for over 17 years. This means sometimes we’ll be working on roles that are not “live” and advertised online. This also means we can recommend positions and companies to candidates we know would be a great fit. We are on numerous PSLs (Preferred Supplier Lists) which means we have signed agreements with companies to work with them.
  • We always ask to speak to the hiring managers in order to get a better understanding of the role. This means when we call you, we know if your profile is a good match for the position. If it is, we’ll always tell you the name of the company and send you further details to review. Once we have a permission from yourself, we’ll be able to represent you to our client and we’ll feel comfortable backing up your application. If your profile isn’t exactly what our client needs, we’ll share your CV with the team and discuss potential roles that are a better fit.
  • We will not pressurise you to take a role that is not right for you. There is no point us pushing you to accept a role you aren’t interested in or suitable for. Our client won’t have a fully committed and relevant employee, you won’t enjoy your role and will no doubt be looking to move on quickly and we have wasted yours and our client’s time. Our job is centred around people and nothing is more satisfying for us than placing a great candidate in his/her perfect role. We also value our client relationships and so would not submit candidates who are not right or not interested in working for them.
  • We can help you with your CV. You would be surprised how many times we have seen a CV not mentioning “LCMS” once but when we spoke to the candidate, they were experts in mass spec! Your CV is representing you on the job market and is the first thing recruiters and companies see so it is crucial to spend some time on it. We are always happy to chat with you and review your CV so that you can get your dream job, from graduate to senior level positions.
  • We believe you can never be too prepared for an interview so we’ll either call you or meet with you prior to your interviews (telephone and face-to-face) to go through specific tips and pointers with you. From answering questions about the role and company to helping with presentations or format of the interview, we’ll do our best to ensure you are ready to ace your interview!
  • We are the messengers between you and the clients, meaning we can negotiate on your behalf. We know sometimes the offer isn’t exactly what you were expecting so we liaise with clients to ensure we get you the best package possible, in line with our client’s capabilities.
  • Everybody likes free things. Guess what? Our services are too! You should never have to pay a penny to a recruiter. As per the above, employers have agreements with recruitment agencies and they will pay the recruiters once a candidate has been placed in their organisation.
