Chemistry, Life Science & Engineering Recruitment

This week Lucy attended the Liverpool edition of the Northwest Biotech Initiative Careers Event for Postgraduates. The Liverpool chapter of the Northwest Biotech Initiative is in its infancy and is coordinated by some very enthusiastic PhD students! The organisation aims to facilitate partnerships and collaborations between junior scientists and local biotech industry and runs various events, workshops and competitions to encourage and simplify entrepreneurship in postgraduates.

It was very satisfying to be part of such an event and contribute to the development of the Northwest Biotech Initiative in Liverpool. We are very keen to help postgraduates find their ideal job and discuss their options with them if they have decided an academic career is not for them.

The event was well structured with talks from a range of speakers covering careers in Science Communication, Product Management and Venture Capitalism, as well as Recruitment Consultancy. A CV clinic then followed along with the chance to chat with the speakers – it was great to chat with the PhD students and discuss their options post-PhD as well as help them perfect their CV for that ideal job!

Most of the students needed advice on how to tailor their CV for industry roles rather than academic positions…..the CVs are very different! Check out our July blog for details on industrial versus academic CVs!
