About this job

Our client is an early-stage, venture-backed start-up seeking to revolutionise the cellular bioproduction sector by building, testing & developing cutting edge machines. The aim of the business is to create scalable, fully automated systems by re-designing the process of mammalian cell culture in a bioproduction/ manufacturing environment. Doing this will allow novel products in the cultivated meat & next gen therapeutics sector to enter mass market efficiently and economically.

We are currently recruiting for experienced Mechanical Engineers who have a passion for building and working on novel projects with unique application areas. You will be directly involved in the entire product cycle of novel bioproduction systems, delivering prototypes, and ultimately manufacturing designs. Due to the start-up nature of the organisation, you should expect a dynamic environment with changing project needs.

Candidate requirements:

  • BEng/MEng (Mechanical, Bioengineering, Aerospace, EEE etc) or equivalent
  • 5+ years’ experience
  • (Junior positions also available, candidates with 1+ years’ experience are encouraged to apply!)
  • Prior experience developing electromechanical devices from specifications to manufactured product
  • CAD (SolidWorks preferable)
  • Rapid prototyping skills (3D printing, thermoforming, CNC machining)
  • Ability to communicate across multiple disciplines; biologists, engineers, suppliers, consultants etc.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously (Jira, Confluence, Notion)
  • Beneficial but not essential: programming (C++, python, git), electronic design, cell culture experience

You will join a close knit and collaborative team of R&D scientists who value quality but are not afraid to get “stuck in” and solve hands on technical issues. This organisation will give you the opportunity to join fast-paced environment in a rapidly evolving and transformative industry!

The application process will be multi-stage with a technical written exercise, screening call, and an onsite visit with the opportunity to meet members of the team. There are likely to be two core interviewers (the co-founders!) and several more from other parts of the business.

Apply to VRS today to be considered for this excellent opportunity!
